Boiled Rice is healthy way of adding rice to your everyday meal. In old days, they use clay pot to cook the rice. If you have clay pot use them else don’t worry the steel sauce pan is more than enough to get the same texture.

Once you start eating boiled rice, then you will not like the taste and texture of pressure cooker one. Try eating the rice in healthy way. Avoid using pressure cooker, rice cooker or instant pot. Those look easy to cook, but not healthy in longer span.

Boiled Rice

Boiled Rice

Preparation Time: 10 mins | Cooking Time: 20 mins | Serves: 4 people

Ingredients:

Rice – 1 1/2 cups

Water – 8 cups

Salt (optional) – As needed

Preparation

Soak the rice for 10 mins. Bring the water to boil.

Note: I am using Calphalon Sauce Pan for cooking rice. Easy to cook and drain the starch with strainer lid.

Wash and drain the soaked rice. Once the water boiled, reduce the flames and carefully add the rice.

Increase the flame and cook the rice. Mostly rice will be cooked in 10-15 mins. Take a rice and press firmly. If it is soft then it is fully cooked. If you like little firm, then remove once it is 3/4 th cooked (cook for 10 mins).

Once it is fully cooked, immediately turn off the flames and drain the starch.

Now healthy boiled rice is ready to eat! Starch free, grainy and non-sticky!!

Tips:

  • Soaking the rice will reduce the amount of boiling the rice
  • Don’t let the rice to cook longer. It will be soggy
  • Drain the starch immediately else it won’t be starch free 🙂
  • If you add salt while cooking rice, adjust your salt level in curry or sides
  • You can cook the brown rice in same way, but it takes little longer to cook fully
